Application Deadline Extended

The Youth Advocacy Council (YAC) is looking for 8 high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 18-21, who like to work hard, collaborate with their peers, and care deeply about social justice.

What is the Youth Advocacy Council?

The YAC is a platform for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop leadership skills and talk about issues that are important to them and their communities.

YAC meetings provide a safe space for students to meet and collaborate. YAC members will choose one social justice issue they want to raise awareness about. With support from artists, advocates, and community leaders, YAC members will create a project about their chosen issue to share with the community.

YAC members:

  • develop leadership skills including team building and collaborative skills

  • work together to raise awareness about a social justice issue chosen by the group

  • build a social network with community leaders and other students

Students will be paid for their time on the YAC.
