My PDS Story: Jordan

Jordan's Story shared with support from Christine.

What are some of the things you enjoy about directing your own services and supports?
We know the people that help with services. I can have Jordan help choose activities or chores she would like help with or would like to encounter. Can choose the rate of pay that will give employees a living wage.

Tell us about a time when you and your support service professional (SSP) tried something new in your community. Where did you go? What did you do? What did you like about this activity? How did your SSP support you in this new adventure?
Jordan and her SSP do shopping trips to shop for a meal they are preparing. Jordan said it was "fun" to shop with her SSP.

Is there anything you think is hard or challenging about directing your own services and supports? Tell us about a time that you faced a challenge with your support staff and how you worked through this challenge.
The new app that we now have to use for keeping track of service and progress notes ... first they want us "not" to send in anything on paper. So my SSPs did keep paper, they sent everything on the app now. It is confusing, and one time, my SSP's did not get paid on time because of the new app.

Directing my own services and supports is important to me because...
I can choose the people working with my loved one and I can choose their pay rate.
