Institute on Disabilities Marks 40 Years
The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, College of Education marked its 40th anniversary with a celebration on May 23, 2013 on the university's main campus.

More than 125 people gathered in Mitten Hall to recognize the Institute's accomplishments and to honor 20 individuals and organizations that exemplify the mission of the Institute and have worked to improve the lives of people with disabilities and their families.
The honorees ranged from policy makers such as US Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr. and Sen. Christine Tartaglione, to parents like Mary Mikus, now working with in Early Intervention Technical Assistance and Ceclia Lee, a tireless advocate for her five-year old son, and finally to self-advocates William Brewer. The six organizations honored represented a variety of services and supports in Pennsylvania including Pennsylvania's Education for All Coalition and Pennsylvania's Coalition Against Rape. Special recognition awards were given to Kathy Sykes, Director, Philadelphia Intellectual disAbility Services for her lifelong commitment in the field of disability and to Dr. James Earl Davis, Dean of the College of Education at Temple University.
