John Badger, Coordinator of Student Supports, Leadership & Career Studies
John BadgerMr. Badger is the Coordinator of Student Supports for Leadership & Career Studies, overseeing its Coach and Internship components while ensuring that each student is provided with the necessary supports to fulfill their academic, career-oriented, and social goals. Since graduating from Temple University in 2010 with a BA in Psychology and prior to joining the Institute in 2013, Jack worked as an Employment Specialist in Doylestown, PA, alongside adults with disabilities throughout Bucks County, and spent a year teaching English as a Foreign Language in the city of Changsha, Hunan Province, China.
Julia Barol, Employment and Transition
Julia BarolJulia Barol works on issues relating to employment of people with disabilities as well as transition from school to work. Julia is president of the Pennsylvania chapter of APSE (Association of People Supporting Employment First) and has been working to advance Employment First here in Pennsylvania. She serves as the delegate to the national APSE Board of Directors representing the Mid-Atlantic states. She was awarded the 2017 CESP of the Year by APSE for her work in the development of the CESP (Certified Employment Support Professional) credential in Pennsylvania.
Denise Beckett, Coordinator, Logistics and Projects
Denise BeckettAs Coordinator of Logistics and Projects, Ms. Beckett maintains and monitors logistics for various projects including, but not limited to, Leadership and Career Studies, C2P2/EI and C2P2/Family Leadership programs, Person Driven Services and Supports. Prior to joining the Institute, Denise served as the admissions administrator at a private academy. Ms. Beckett earned a Master's Degree in Advanced Theology from Chesapeake Seminary, MD.
Titania Boddie, Program Coordinator, Leadership & Career Studies
Titania BoddieTitania Boddie is the Project Director of Leadership & Career Studies (L&CS), a four-year post-secondary certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities and autism at the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University. Titania is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of L&CS. Titania serves as the primary instructor of L&CS Enrichment sessions for all students participating in the program. Her essential functions also include developing curricula, lesson plans, policies and procedures, presenting at city and state-wide events as well as planning, organizing, and overseeing events pertaining to L&CS. In addition, Titania has worked with the Philadelphia Mental Health Center and Philadelphia School District supporting individuals with mental health and intellectual disabilities. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education and her Master's Degree in Adult Organizational Development at Temple University.
Yvette Bolden, Administrative Assistant
Yvette BoldenMs. Bolden is the Administrative Assistant for Pennsylvania's Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT), responsible for many of the administrative functions of this Institute program.
Parris Boyd, Project Coordinator, Criminal Justice and Sexuality Initiatives
Parris BoydMr. Boyd is the project coordinator for the Institute's criminal justice and sexuality initiatives. Parris is a licensed social worker who got his master's here at Temple. He studied Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte before grad school.
Takiesha Brown, Associate Director for Finance and Administration
Takiesha BrownMs. Brown is the Associate Director of Finance and Administration, responsible for the financial management and day-to-day operations of the Institute. She has approximately 13 years of experience in grants administration and financial management in higher educational institutions and governmental agencies. Ms. Brown earned a bachelor's degree in Information Science from University of Pittsburgh, and a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Kathryn Burke, Ph.D., Senior Research Associate
Kathryn Burke, Ph.D.Dr. Burke is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute on Disabilities and an Assistant Professor of Research in the Department of Teaching and Learning. She received her PhD from the University of Kansas in Special Education with a Minor in Research Design and Analysis. Dr. Burke was formerly an elementary special education teacher in Philadelphia and is passionate about advancing strengths-based inclusive education and self-determination across the life course for people with disabilities through scholarship, teaching, and service.
Guy Caruso, Ph.D., Western Coordinator
Guy Caruso, Ph.D.As Western Coordinator, Dr. Caruso is responsible for training and related activities in western Pennsylvania. In addition, he provides technical assistance to Pennsylvania's ODP Independent Monitoring for Quality Program. He has worked in human services for more than 40 years as an advocate, teacher, trainer, researcher, and consultant. Dr. Caruso has a master's degree and a doctorate from Syracuse University and is a Fellow of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
Mary Kay Cunningham, Assistant Director of Technical Assistance
Mary Kay CunninghamMs. Cunningham is the Assistant Director of Technical Assistance, responsible for providing technical assistance to PA's Independent Monitoring for Quality Project, which assesses the satisfaction and quality of life of individuals receiving intellectual services through the Office of Developmental Programs and is a member of the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council. Before joining the Institute, Ms. Cunningham was Director of Quality Management at a provider organization. She is a PA DPW-ODP Certified Incident Investigator and a Personal Outcome Measure interviewer through the Council on Quality and Leadership. She has a BS in Psychology from Kutztown University and a MSW from Temple University.
Tom DiAgostino, Outreach and Training Coordinator
Tom DiAgostinoAs the Outreach and Training Coordinator for TechOWL, Tom coordinates all outreach events and presentations for TechOWL, builds TechOWL's presence on social media, and publishes video clips and blog content. He also assists in the assistive technology fabrication program called CreATe Together. Tom holds a BA in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies with a secondary major in Spanish Language and Linguistics from Temple University and is currently finishing his MA in Spanish Applied Linguistics at Temple University.
Virginia DiLello, Program/Publication Specialist
Virginia DiLelloAs Graphic Designer for the Institute, Ms. DiLello is responsible for designing and producing all print publications. She is both a designer and writer, following a project from conception to printing, insuring accessibility. Ms. DiLello has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Advertising from Temple and before joining the Institute, was a freelance writer and designer, with clients such as E.P. Henry, Wheaton Scientific and Renault Resort.
Sandie Dorsey, Financial Coordinator
Sandie DorseyMs. Dorsey is the Financial Coordinator at the Institute, with a variety of budgetary responsibilities. Prior to joining the Institute, she served as the Administrative Specialist with the Russell Conwell Learning Center for 15 years serving as student-parent liaison. Sandie is a graduate of MTI Business School in Newark, NJ.
Celia Feinstein, Project Manager, State Initiatives
Celia FeinsteinMs. Feinstein's current position is Project Manager, State Initiatives. During her career at the Institute, she has served in many capacities, most recently as Executive Director. In this position, Ms. Feinstein will manage the projects which are specifically funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She is a former Board President of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, the UCEDD national membership organization. In addition, Ms. Feinstein also held the title of Associate Professor of Urban Studies in Temple University's College of Education. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Medical Sociology from Temple University and has completed her doctoral coursework in Medical Sociology.
Katie Fetterolf, Project Coordinator, Assistive Technology Lending Library
Katie FetterolfMs. Fetterolf is the Project Coordinator for Pennsylvania's Assistive Technology Lending Library. She is responsible for processing and screening all device loan applications, and for managing and maintaining all lending library equipment for Pennsylvania's Initiative on Assistive Technology. Ms. Fetterolf is a graduate of the Institute's C2P2 Emerging and Established Leadership program. She has done a variety of volunteer work throughout the community, and has a Masters degree from Temple University.
Kate Fialkowski, Director of Academic Programs
Kate FialkowskiMs. Fialkowski directs the Institute on Disabilities' university-based education programs, including the Interdisciplinary Faculty Council on Disability, the Disability and Change Symposium, and the Disability Studies Certificate program. Ms. Fialkowski was an MIT Executive in Residence at the Media Lab's Center for Future Banking, a Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Public Policy Fellow at the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the Executive Director of The Arc Maryland. As an American Association of University Women (AAUW) Career Development Grantee, Ms. Fialkowski received her Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in Biotechnology and Ethics from the JPII Institute at Catholic University of America. She also holds a BA in Technical Communication from Bowling Green State University. The Fialkowski family were involved in several landmark cases including Halderman v. Pennhurst State School and Hospital, PARC v. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Fialkowski v. Greenwhich Home for Children. Kate Fialkowski has worked on numerous national disability policy task groups including Building a National Agenda for Supporting Families with a Member with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (2011) and Enabling Adults with ID Affected by Dementia to Remain in Their Community and Receive Supports (2012). National conference presentations include Including People with Disabilities in the Discussion of Domestic Abuse and Violence (2016). Ms. Fialkowski and her brother David Fialkowski are active sibling advocates and have presented together at a number of events including Temple Institute on Disabilities Miniseries, Siblings Moving Beyond the Parent/Child Relationship (2011).
Beverly Frantz, Ph.D., Criminal Justice Project Director
Beverly Frantz, Ph.D.Dr. Frantz directs the Institute's criminal justice and sexuality initiatives, including curriculum development, research, and technical assistance at the local, state and national levels. She has published numerous journal articles, reports, and personal safety/sexual abuse curricula. Dr. Frantz earned a Master of Science degree from Villanova University and the London School of Economics and a Doctorate degree from Widener University in Human Sexuality.
Susan Fullam, Director of Communication
Susan FullamAs Director of Communication, Ms. Fullam is responsible for all material created and distributed by the Institute, including web, print, audio and video. She spent the greater part of her career in publishing and communications in the private sector. After graduating from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Ms. Fullam served first as graphic designer, then as managing Editor, of a local newspaper. She then spent more than 10 years at TV Guide magazine as Director of Marketing Services.
Sally Gould-Taylor, Ph.D., Interim Executive Director
Sally Gould-Taylor, Ph.D.Dr. Gould-Taylor is the Interim Executive Director at the Institute on Disabilities. In her role as Executive Director, she leads all directives including Leadership Development, Assistive Technology, Research and Evaluation, Policy, Media Arts and Culture. Sally has worked on both qualitative and quantitative research projects in diverse fields of human services, disability, and education. Additionally, she has taught at Temple for more than 9 years. Sally earned her PhD in Urban Education with a focus on Anthropology of Education.
Laura Grassia, Program Manager, Free Phones Program
Laura GrassiaMs. Grassia is the program manager of the Free Special Phones Program. Ms. Grassia comes to Temple with over 20 years of experience working with adults and seniors in various healthcare settings in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music and Master of Arts in Music Therapy degree from Immaculata University. In her spare time, Ms. Grassia is deeply involved as a singing member and administrative assistant in the nation's longest running feminist choir, Anna Crusis Women's Choir.
Adora Hatten, Financial Manager
Adora HattenMs. Hatten is the Financial Manager at the Institute. During her 36-year career at the Institute, Adora has overseen many aspects of the center’s financial functions, both programmatic and institutional. Her in current position, Adora manages a wide variety of budgetary responsibilities and serves as administrator of many activities of the Institute. She is a member the Society of Research Administrators International, and has earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Temple University.
Kathryn Helland, AAC Services Coordinator
Kathryn HellandMs. Helland is the AAC Services Coordinator at the Institute. She provides information, AAC evaluations and AT consults to consumers of Pennsylvania's Initiative on Assistive Technology (PIAT). Kathryn is a certified speech-language pathologist and has worked with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and complex communication needs. She received her bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and her Master's in Communication Disorders from William Paterson University.
Mary Jones-Furlow, Project Coordinator, Exemplary Services & Technical Assistance
Mary Jones-FurlowMs. Jones-Furlow coordinates and manages the quality-of-life monitoring of individuals with intellectual disability who are Pennhurst class members living in Montgomery County. She also works with a similar project involving quality of life surveys with aging, disability and mental health consumers, funded through the Federal Money Follows the Person Initiative. In addition, she coordinates the Mini Course Lecture Series on Disability and co-facilitates training for organizations seeking to provide respite services for children with special health care needs. Ms. Jones-Furlow earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Albany State University (Albany, GA) and her Masters in Social Work Degree from Temple University.
Jamie Kennedy, Web Production Assistant
Jamie KennedyAs Web Production Assistant, Ms. Kennedy updates webpages for the Institute while adhering to web accessibility standards. She has experience with graphic/web design, and web development. Ms. Kennedy received a bachelors degree in Multimedia Communications from Carnegie Mellon University and an associates degree in Web Design and Interactive Media from the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
Jim Lemanowicz, Assistant Director of Research
Jim LemanowiczMr. Lemanowicz is Assistant Director of Research at the Institute on Disabilities, as well as the Data Coordinator for the NIRS database. A 30+ year employee of Temple his responsibilities include statistical analysis and data management on multiple research projects. Mr. Lemanowicz co-authored several publications in developmental disabilities and presented at many forums. Currently his area of concentration is quality assurance, consumer interviews, and evaluation of the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Mr. Lemanowicz received a Master of Business Administration degree from Temple University.
Amy Letson, Web Designer
Amy LetsonMs. Letson manages website development and accessibility, photography, and social media for the Institute. She holds a BFA from the University of Delaware and a master's from Temple University. Her professional experience spans news, legal, publishing, finance, nonprofit, and higher education sectors.
Jule Ann Lieberman, Assistive Technology Program Coordinator
Jule Ann LiebermanAs Assistive Technology Program Coordinator Ms. Lieberman provides information and assistance to consumers of TechOWL services. She conducts assistive technology (AT) demonstrations and training and is responsible for public awareness activities to promote TechOWL's service goals. Ms. Lieberman has earned her MS in Low Vision Therapy from Salus University, Certificate in AT Applications from California State University Northridge, and is a Certified Low Vision Therapist with more than 15 years experience of providing computer AT instruction to adults with vision loss and blindness. She recently founded EZ2C Foundation, a non-profit agency serving people adjusting to life with permanent vision loss, earned Certification as Assistive Technology Professional from RESNA, Certified Low vision Therapist from ACVREP, and has obtained dual certification as Low Vision Therapist and Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist from acvrep.org.
Caitlin McKenney, Project Coordinator, Assistive Technology Specialist
Caitlin McKenneyAs a TechOWL project coordinator, Ms. McKenney oversees the reused equipment program and emergency preparedness activities. In addition she provides technical assistance and assistive technology services. Prior to joining the Institute, Caitlin worked for seven years in the field of special education. She holds a master's degree in Assistive Technology Studies and Human Services from California State University at Northridge.
Michael McLendon, Office Assistant
Michael McLendonMr. McLendon is Front Desk Office Assistant. His responsibilities include clerical services such as managing the front desk area during office hours, greeting visitors, receiving and forwarding incoming telephone calls, and managing incoming and outgoing mail. Michael also works for the Telecommunication Device Distribution Program, a program of the Institute, scanning important documents. After graduating from high school, Michael attended the Academy for Adult Learning, a program of the Institute.
Sandra McNally, Assistant Director of Assistive Technology Programs
Sandra McNallyMs. McNally is Assistant Director of Assistive Technology Programs at the Institute. She is Program Director for TechOWL - Technology for Our Whole Lives, and coordinates other funded statewide assistive technology activities, including iCanConnectPA, the National Deaf-Blind Equipment Distribution Program in Pennsylvania. Sandi is a parent of two children with disabilities, and holds a Masters Degree from Temple University.
Erin Metzinger, Academic Relations Coordinator, Leadership & Career Studies
Erin MetzingerMs. Metzinger is the Academic Relations Coordinator for Leadership & Career Studies responsible for scheduling courses, overseeing academic progress, and supporting accommodation plans that help students succeed in the college classroom. Erin graduated from La Salle University with a B.A. in Secondary Education and English and a M.Ed. in Education and Autism Disorders. Prior to joining the Institute on Disabilities, Erin worked as a special instructor in Early Interventionchildcare and as a mental health therapist for the Center for Autism teaching life skills curriculums to young adults with disabilities.
Stacy Phillips, Communication Services Coordinator
Stacy PhillipsMs. Phillips is the Communication Services Coordinator for the Institute. Her responsibilities include coordinating assessments for adults with intellectual disabilities who are deaf under the "Harry M" waiver. Ms. Phillips spent 10 years as a special education and autism support teacher in Philadelphia. She earned her Master of Science degree in Restorative Practices and Education from the International Institute for Restorative Practices, a Bachelor's of Science in Special and Elementary Education with certification in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Temple University, and has her American Sign Language Studies Certificate from the Community College of Philadelphia.
Jamie Ray-Leonetti, Associate Director of Policy
Jamie Ray-LeonettiMs. Ray-Leonetti is the Associate Director of Policy, responsible for coordinating all policy-related activities for the Institute and working on other grants and contracts related to public policy, such as the implementation of the CMS Final Rule for Home and Community-based Services. Before joining the Institute, Ms. Ray-Leonetti spent the first 20 years of her professional career advocating for individuals with disabilities throughout Pennsylvania. She has a BA in Humanities from York College of Pennsylvania and a JD from Temple University School of Law.
Cathy Roccia-Meier, Family Education Coordinator
Cathy Roccia-MeierCathy Roccia-Meier, MPP is the Project Director of Leadership Development at the Institute on Disabilities and Temple University and the parent of a young man on the autism spectrum. She provides training and technical assistance to families and individuals with disabilities across the state through the Philadelphia based Families First program and state-wide Confidence and Competence, Partners in Policymaking and Confidence and Competence Partners in Policymaking: Early Intervention programs. She has been an active advocate in the School District of Philadelphia, has served as a Chairperson for the Local Right to Education Task Force, is Vice President of Autism Sharing and Parenting and currently serves as a Philadelphia representative and Chairperson on Pennsylvania's Special Education Advisory Panel.
Kim Singleton, Director of Assistive Technology Programs
Kim SingletonAs Director of Assistive Technology Programs, Ms. Singleton is responsible for programs to make technology available and useful to people served by the Institute. Prior to joining the Institute, Kim was a speech-language pathologist specializing in children and adults with complex communication needs, creatively enhancing lives with emerging technology. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, she received her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from Miami University.
Lisa Sonneborn, Director, Media Arts and Culture
Lisa SonnebornMs. Sonneborn develops and directs arts initiatives within the Institute which feature innovative, fully accessible cultural programming. Programs include A Fierce Kind Of Love, Here., and Visionary Voices. For more than 25 years, Ms. Sonneborn has produced media that is focused on issues meaningful to the disability community. Ms. Sonneborn earned her BA in Art History from Arcadia University, and her MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University.
Hali Strickler, AAC Services Coordinator
Hali StricklerMs. Strickler is AAC Services Coordinator for TechOWL at the Institute. She provides AAC and assistive technology supports and services to individuals with complex communication needs. Hali received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science from Temple University. She is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist with experience in the public school setting.
Eva Weiss, Research Associate
Eva WeissAs a Research Associate, Eva Weiss contributes to local, state and national projects, examining secondary transition, service provision, supported decision-making, cultural competency, the school-to-prison pipeline, and deinstitutionalization. While a trainee in Research and Evaluation, she developed a strong foundation in the history of disability rights and mixed methods research, and served as the IOD's AUCD Trainee Liaison. Eva is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Temple University. Her research applies critical disability theory to the examination of immigration governance to reveal overlooked and interlocking regimes of ableism, nativism and racism, which actively produce labor market inclusion and social exclusion.
