LINKS: Living Inclusionary Knowledge in Schools

LINKS will integrate the knowledge, skills and dispositions relevant to special education into the general teacher education programs through a redesign of curriculum, an increased emphasis on inclusionary field experiences, and enhanced collaboration between special education and general education faculty. A unique component of the LINKS project is the establishment of a special education "broker" within each teacher education program to provide training and advocacy.

Preparing Future Middle and High School Teachers to Meet Diverse Learning Needs in Inclusive Classroom Settings:
A Co-Teaching Model for General and Special Education Teachers

Faculty in the Education and Special Education departments will investigate ways to redesign two required courses that would have faculty model co-planning and co-teaching techniques for undergraduate students. Faculty will partner with secondary teachers in the Scranton School District to learn of current models of inclusion that are being implemented and to seek their assistance in the redesign of the coursework. The long-range goal of this project is to review the curriculum of all secondary education certification programs at the university in light of inclusive practices.
