TR 0813: Disability Identity
The mission of the General Education Program at Temple University is to enable students to become knowledgeable and active citizens, equipped to judge critically aspects of their world and themselves, as they make decisions about their lives and their communities. The course Disability Identity explores the various social structures that shape the experience and behavior of persons with various types of disability in contemporary society. We also examine how persons with disabilities influence social structures through contributions to, or participation in, self-advocacy movements. Examples of institutional impacts include disability rights legislation, the development of technology and changing medial representations.
