PAGE TWO- INSIDE FRONT COVER Consider This… Due to the staffing needs of the US economy and the upcoming retirement of baby boomers, the future workforce is expected to experience dramatic shortages. These labor needs will not just be the problem of big businesses. According to the US Chamber of Commerce a recent National Federation of Independent Business survey of small businesses found that 27% of employers reported difficulty in filling open positions. Not only are the number of available workers expected to be low, the US Chamber also reports that 60% of new jobs in the United States will require skills held by only 20% of the current workforce. For survival, companies will need to expand their recruitment efforts to find new resources for qualified job candidates and find ways to retain their skilled workers that develop disabilities. A growing number of employers are also recognizing that workplace diversity allows them to do more than just survive. Diversity enables those that are federal contractors to fulfill compliance requirements. Employee diversity also translates into greater productivity and a competitive edge in the marketplace.
