INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIDEO

Create a Video

A short video demonstrating the ways in which you communicate and use technology is required for ACES applicants who, due to distance, we are not able to visit in person. The video should not be longer than 10 minutes, and should focus on the following:

  • Examples of how you communicate with friends and/or family using your communication device and/or strategies (i.e., speech and vocalizations, "yes/no," communication books/wallets, letter/picture boards, gestures, pointing, etc.).

Be sure to show us all of the ways in which you communicate (i.e., speech generating device in addition to strategies when device is not needed/accessible)
  • If you use a computer, show us what type of computer you use and how you use it.

For example, do you use any of the built-in access features of Microsoft Office (e.g. Sticky Keys? Enlarged text?)? Do you use your AAC device as an alternate keyboard?
  • For a brief portion of the video, please zoom in to capture how you access your communication device(s) (i.e., with your finger, with a switch, with a headpointer, etc.) However, please do not focus the entire video on the communication device...show yourself using the device to communicate with your friends and family!
  • Finally, please use the video to answer the following questions:

    - Why do you want to attend ACES?

    - What are your dreams for the future?

Please send your video to:

Jennifer Seale, M.S.
Augmentative Communication Services Coordinator
Institute on Disabilities at Temple University
1601 N. Broad Street
University Services Building 610
Philadelphia, PA 19122

Your completed application materials should be sent to ACES no later than March 31st, 2008. If you are unable to complete your video by that time, send the other application materials, and submit your video no later than April 30th, 2008.
