Special Assistant to the Executive Director

Institute on Disabilities

Temple University

Duties:

Duties of this full time position include assisting the Executive Director in all activities – internal and external – related to the management of the Institute on Disabilities. Activities include, but are not limited to, written and oral communication, appointment and meeting coordination, undertaking the day-to-day tasks of the Institute (e.g., writing reports and development materials, correspondence, research, dissemination, and interfacing with the College, University, State and Federal agencies, and the community at-large). Qualified candidates will also participate in developing the interdisciplinary disability studies program. In addition, the Assistant will staff the Advisory Council and support in development activities of the Institute on Disabilities. The Special Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director of the Institute.

Qualifications and Essential Functions:

(1) bachelor's degree required, graduate level education in Disability Studies, Developmental Disabilities, and/or related research area preferred; (2) detail-oriented, excellent organizational skills, good multi-tasking abilities, and a demonstrated record of prompt and effective follow-through on all tasks; (3) excellent written and oral communication skills; (4) ability to maintain confidentiality is essential; (5) experience in interacting with diverse audiences – particularly a wide range of people with disabilities, university and government officials, faculty and students; (6) research and report-writing; (7) experience with Macintosh and PC computers and software (Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Internet, listservs); and (8) availability for occasional travel statewide.
