Expert in Communication Guest of the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University
The Mini Course Lecture Series on Disabilities, a program of the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, College of Education, welcomed Dr. David McNaughton, faculty member in the Special Education program at Penn State University, who presented his lecture "Communication, Self-Determination and Community: Augmentative and Alternative (AAC) Strategies to Support Transition."
More than 75 people gathered in the Student Center on the Main Campus of Temple University to hear Dr. McNaughton present ideas, resources and discussion points on a variety of topics around communication and self-determination for individuals with complex communication needs.
Dr. McNaughton addressed speech and communication professionals, students, educators and other professionals on the challenges for a person with complex communication needs when developing transition goals, working with personal care attendants, attaining meaningful participation, finding employment and achieving self-determination.
