Institute on Disabilities Holds Public Forums
November 2011
Throughout the month of November, the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University sponsored a series of Public Forums designed to give Pennsylvanians with disabilities an opportunity to express opinions on how the Institute can plan its future work.
Along with the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania and The Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council, the Institute on Disabilities has been listening to Pennsylvania residents at Public Forums in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre and Bethlehem.
Residents provided feedback, both in person and via mail, about issues that the three sponsoring organizations should pursue and how they can ensure civil and human rights for people with disabilities. They also provided direction on what type of training opportunities should be available and what research needs to be done to guide policy, improve services and supports, and to protect human rights.
Though the final session is scheduled for November 28, 2012 in Philadelphia, comments will still be accepted through the mail. The information gathered will help guide the mission and work efforts of the three sponsoring organization for the next five years.
