Institute Hosts International Theatre Company
September 30, 2009
The Institute on Disabilities hosted Back to Back, a theatre company based in Geelong, Australia, which creates new forms of contemporary theatre imagined from the minds and experiences of a unique ensemble of actors with disabilities, giving voice to social and political issues that speak to all people.
Two actors, Simon Laherty and Sonia Teuben, along with Artistic Associate, Marcia Ferguson, conducted an exciting and engaging workshop on Wednesday, September 23, about their touring production of Small Metal Objects.
David Mitchell, Executive Director of the Institute, introduced the group to the more than 100 students, faculty and staff gathered in the Underground room of the Howard Gittis Student Center on Temple University's main campus.
The group discussed the story of its formation, their process of developing improvisation into a highly polished script and rigors of touring with such performance pieces such as Small Metal Objects, which they performed during the Philadelphia Live Arts/Fringe Festival.
